Attending Mass:

In ordinary circumstances, Catholics are obliged to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy days of obligation, however, due to the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic we are not obliged to attend Mass in person. We can choose to worship in the church building when safe to do so or at home through the online streaming.

If you are planning to attend Mass in person at St. John the Evangelist, please check the website for any updates. As a Parish, we rely on complete transparency and honesty from all our parishioners, therefore, if anyone is unwell for ANY reason, please refrain from attending in person.

As you may already be aware, it is now a legal requirement to wear a face mask when attending mass or visiting the church for private prayers. Coronavirus (COVID-19) is known to spread by droplets from coughs, sneezes and speaking, therefore, social distancing, regular hand hygiene, face coverings and covering coughs or sneezes are advisable measures in controlling the spread of the virus (Department of Health & Social Care, 2021)

On arrival, please follow the advice and guidance from our stewards. In the first instance please ensure that you sanitise your hands before entering the church.

Individuals or family bubbles need to pick an NHS Track and Trace card ensuring they bring their own pens to avoid the risk of cross-contamination. These cards are to be completed at their seats with specific details about where they would be seating during Mass. If you have the NHS App, please could you also complete the NHS Track and Trace card for inhouse use.

The capacity in our church is set by what is feasible within COVID-secure social distancing guidelines as explained in the Places of Worship Guidance. Please follow the seating arrangements in order to adhere to these social distancing principles. In addition, please avoid changing seats either during mass or at any other time for example when accessing the sacrament of reconciliation/ confession to avoid cross-contamination.
